At Muay Thai Fever in Chiang Mai, we've been at the forefront of helping students secure the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) through the Muay Thai soft power initiative. With our experience, expertise, and a comprehensive understanding of the visa process, we've successfully assisted nearly 50 students, with only two facing initial setbacks. One student had trouble with bank statements, and another faced early resistance at the Phnom Penh embassy when the DTV was first introduced. However, we guided him to Ho Chi Minh, where he successfully obtained his visa.
Our journey as the first Muay Thai gym to successfully secure the DTV visa has given us unparalleled insight into the process. We’ve gained in-depth knowledge of the Muay Thai documents needed, how embassies operate, and how to make sure every application is as smooth as possible.
Success Across Countries and Continents
At Muay Thai Fever, we’ve handled DTV visa applications in various Southeast Asian countries such as Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Malaysia. In fact, we’ve processed visa applications both in the applicants’ home countries and in neighboring countries, providing our students with the flexibility to apply from wherever is most convenient.
Our applicants come from all over the world. We've worked with individuals from the UK, Canada, China, Australia, Myanmar, the USA, Holland, Philippines, France, Belgium, Jordan, New Zealand, Italy, Finland, Japan, and India. This diversity has allowed us to navigate different embassy requirements, ensuring we’re prepared for the unique documentation needed from various nationalities.
What We’ve Learned Along the Way
One thing we've come to understand is that every embassy may have slightly different requirements. For example, while some embassies may accept a simple letter stating the applicant is partaking in a non soft power activity like scuba diving or self defence, others require the activity to be a soft power option such as Muay Thai. Some accept just an invitation letter but others require more thorough documentation, such as proof that the training program is led by a limited company registered for tax purposes and recognized by government agencies.
For those applying for the DTV through the Muay Thai soft power option, we’ve learned that presenting a six-month course is the safest way to ensure approval. While some embassies may accept shorter courses or even non-soft power activities like scuba diving or self-defense training, it’s prudent to cover all your bases with a comprehensive program.
When it comes to Muay Thai, various government agencies oversee the sport, and different embassies may require documents from different ones. This means it’s crucial to find a gym that holds the necessary registrations from all departments, such as the Sports Authority of Thailand, the Board of Boxing Sport, and the Ministry of Education. At Muay Thai Fever, we possess all the required documents, giving our students a solid foundation for their visa applications.
Choosing the Right Gym Matters
There are very few Muay Thai gyms that hold what we call the "royal flush" of documents: certifications from the Sports Authority of Thailand, the Board of Boxing Sport, the Ministry of Education, and a limited company registration. While this may seem unfair to smaller gyms that offer fantastic training, it’s important to choose a gym that ticks all the boxes when applying for the DTV. Without the full range of documentation, applicants risk a game of Ping Pong between embassies and gyms, delaying the visa process.
At Muay Thai Fever, we’ve streamlined the process by ensuring we meet all these requirements. Our extensive documentation means your application won’t be held up due to missing Muay Thai-related paperwork. We’ve removed the uncertainty for our students, and as a result, they can focus on their training without worrying about visa complications.
Summary
The DTV is still an evolving visa option. When the Thai government introduced it, they intended it as a simplified way to attract long-term visitors. However, as the visa becomes more popular, embassies and consulates are introducing more stringent requirements.
Despite these challenges, one thing remains clear: choosing a soft power activity like Muay Thai, enrolling in a six-month course, and selecting a training facility with all the necessary documents ensures that your application won’t fail due to the activity portion of the visa.
While we can’t speak to other factors such as banking requirements, when it comes to securing your DTV through the Muay Thai option, Muay Thai Fever has the experience, documentation, and success rate to guide you every step of the way.
At Muay Thai Fever, we’ve mastered the process, so you can focus on mastering your Muay Thai skills.
